Sofiyan El Bagkhali, Moroccan sprinter The Kenyan men's 3,000m sprint Olympic gold medal record ended for nine consecutive times after accelerating the final lap to be the first to cross the finish line.
Kenya has won gold in this category from the 1984 Olympics to Rio de Janeiro. However, in Tokyo 2020, it became El Bagcali, who finished fourth at the Rio Games, to take the gold medal with a time of 8:08.90. Min became the first Moroccan to win a gold medal in this category.
The silver medal went to 2019 runner-up Lamecha Kerma with a time of 8:10.38 minutes, becoming the first Ethiopian since 1980 to win an Olympic medal in the category. And the bronze medal was Benjamin Kaigan from Kenya at 8:11.45 minutes.
